John Leonard Luhm was born on March 4, 1927 in Lewistown, Montana to Joseph and Irene Luhm and passed away in Olympia on June 29, 2010. He moved with his family from Montana to Shelton in the mid-1930s and served in the Navy during the waning years of WWII. On August 1, 1947 he married Frances M. Buchanan and together they lived in Shelton and the Mason and Thurston County area throughout their marriage. He spent 38 years working as a welder/millwright for ITT Rayonier.
John was an active member of the 40 et 8 Voiture 135 and American Legion Post 31, serving as 40 et 8 Grand Correspondent for more than 25 years. He developed treasured friendships through these organizations and enjoyed participating in veterans' activities for more than 50 years.
He was a hard working man who loved his farm, his family, and chasing a bargain at heavy equipment auctions. John is survived by his wife, son, daughter, three grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
