Caroline's father, Samuel Peter Layman, was in the Roster of Wisc Volunteers - War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865, 36th Regiment Infantry, Company F. Bovina, Feb 29, 1864, Wounded June 2, 1864, Cold Harbor (shot in the face which crushed the jaw and nearly tore his tongue from his mouth). Honorably discharged Dec 10, 1864, disability - Battle of Wilderness in Virginia under Gen. Grant. Also fought in North Anna, Culpepper, Spottsylvania C.H., and Cold Harbor. |
