Joseph B. Murphy, 81, a retired railroad employee, died Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was born Oct. 22, 1889 in St. Wendel, Minn. , to John and Katherine (Doyle) Murphy. He was a resident of St. Cloud for many years and employed by the Great Northern Railroad more tha n 30 years, retiring in 1953. He married Mary Ellen Murphy in St. Columbkille Church in 1910. He is survived by his widow; children, Mrs. Lawrence (Emma) Kahl, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Nestor (Theresa) Maglich, St. Paul; Mr. J. Hugh Murphy, Duluth, Minn.; the Rev. Malachy Murphy OSB, St. John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minn.; Mrs. John (Mary Ellen) Katsis, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Elizabeth Konyot and Mrs. Roy (Cecilia) Laramie, St. Cloud; Cmdr. Loretta Murphy USN, Oakland, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, John, Mrs. Susan Buttweiler, St. Cloud; and Mrs. James Slamnik, St. Stephen, Minn.
