From Helen Felling's papers: According to Clarence Egan, his uncles James, Thomas T., Mike, and John Rooney went west hunting buffalo after the locusts destroyed all their crops in Padua. James Rooney left his wife and family with his parents, John and Mary Rooney. They were gone for about four years. They had a lot of buffalo hides and were returning home when the Indians took all the hides away from them. Thomas T. Rooney froze his big toe and lost it hunting buffalo.
