Shared note

Edward was a lodger in Arizona in the 1930 census and a bus boy in Los Angeles, California in the 1940 census, unmarried.

The dates are based on Edward's Social Security record. However, there's an Edward J. Flynn, who according to the California Death Index, was born 20 Sep 1903 in Minnesota, died 10 June 1971 in Los Angeles, California and is buried in the Willamette Cemetery in Oregon. His mother was also named Sarah. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army in WWII. The dates and places are so similar, it could be the same individual. However, the officer rank and the burial in Oregon seem a bit out of character for a bus boy and someone who seems to otherwise have had no association with Oregon. But this Edward J and his family are in the 1910 census in Oakland, CA, so I think this is someone else.
