Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minden Township (rural Sauk Rapids) for James E. "Jim" Martin, age 77, who died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Bernard Kahlhamer will officiate and burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the services Monday at the church. Arrangements were made by Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids.

Jim was born Oct. 29, 1932 in Eden Valley to Elmo & Gertrude (Dreis) Martin. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1953. Jim marr ied Helen Cremers on June 8, 1955 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. He had various jobs over the years including Auto Parts Headquarters, most recently he drove for Southwood Motors. Jim was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waite Park American Legion Post 428 , Waite Park Moose Lodge #1400 where he was a past Governor and a life member of St. Cloud VFW Post 428. He enjoyed football, baseball, basketball, fishing, cribbage, going out with friends, hunting deer and pheasant, snowmobiling, and riding motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Sauk Rapids; brothers and sister, Daniel of New Munich, Mary (Marvin) Hannah of Spring Lake Park, John (Debbie) of Isanti, and Michael (Joyce) of Lake Havasu City, AZ; special close friend, Sarah Leonard of St. Cloud; dogs, Matty, Truman, and Zita; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
