Shared note

David Richard Brand, age 64, passed away after a short battle with cancer at Enloe Hospital in Chico, CA on Friday, May 17, 2019 surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 2, 1955, in Bakersfield, CA to Joan Martin and Richard Brand. Later, Joan remarried to David's step-father Merle Jenkins, who he admired greatly. He attended Saint Lawrence Catholic Elementary School and went on to graduate from North High School in 1973. After a brief period of study at Bakersfield College, David's fervor and independence propelled him to pursue a career with Pacific Gas and Electric, and he was relocated to Chico, CA in 1980 at the age of 25. He worked his way up from a New Business Representative, later advancing to become a Senior Electric Engineer Estimator.

On October 25, 1992, he married Mikki McCaig, and together they raised a daughter. David was a social butterfly; he could not leave the house without running into a friend or acquaintance; he cared deeply for his community and could always be relied upon to lend a helping hand. Friendship meant everything to him, and he maintained lifelong bonds with childhood friends like Steve Mulancaû a constant pillar in his life. His personability and innate creativity flourished through working with the National Exchange Clubû organizing events for charityû and serving on the board of trustees for the Pacific Service Employees Association, in which he would unite his coworkers for moments of entertainmentû a crab feed, an excursion to the horse races, or a bus trip to see his favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants. David loved to have fun, but even more so, he loved to bring joy to others.

In 2018, David retired from PG&E after 38 years of loyal service and spent the following year traveling to the UK, walking his dogs in the park, working out at the gym, and enjoying the company of his wife and their friends in the local nightlife. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Mikki; daughter, Kelly; step-children Lori (Scott) Teague, and Grant (Shannon) Tuter; 7 grandchildren; his sisters Sally Ellis, Karen Miller, and Marianne (Kevin) Harbin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 416 Chestnut St., Chico.
Burial will follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.

A celebration of life will be held at the family home on the evening of June 1 for friends and relatives.
