Elizabeth Rooney, age 104, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 30th at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten with Father Jeff Ethen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Padua. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.

Elizabeth I. Rooney, the daughter of Ben and Mary (Vorgert) Imdieke, was born July 6, 1907, in Padua, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Padua and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Padua. She attended country school and graduated from Brooten High School. After graduation, she furthered her education at St. Cloud State and graduated with a degree in teaching.

Elizabeth worked at various schools spanning 20 plus years. During WWII, Elizabeth did her part to help by working at Navel Supply in Spokane, WA. She was united in marriage to Edmund Rooney (also from Padua) at St. Ann's Church in Spokane, WA, on November 26, 1946. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Padua. This marriage was blessed with three boys. Elizabeth and Edmund were married five years before Edmund passed away on April 27, 1952. Elizabeth continued to reside on her farm near Padua until 1990 when she moved to Sauk Centre. She lived there for seven years until she moved to the Belgrade Nursing Home. She continued to reside there for the next 15 years and passed away on March 27, 2012.

Elizabeth belonged to the Padua Christian Mothers and Padua Senior Citizens. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, journaling and writing. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Mike (Laurel) Rooney of Brooten, Jim (Roxanne) Rooney of Kensington, and Roger (Debbie) Rooney of Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Stacy, Clinton, Katie, Ryan, Bill, Nathan, Teresa, Vanessa, Carrie, Christy, Michala and Erin Rooney; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Rooney and by her parents; brothers, Herman, Joe, Henry, Leander, and Otto Imdieke; an adopted brother, James Bradley and sisters, Agnes Majerus, Mathilda Gilland and Genevieve LaPorte.
