William Rooney, age 74 of Paynesville, died Monday, January 1, 2007, at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the Church of Our Lady in Manannah. Burial will be in St. Donatus Catholic Cemetery in Brooten.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary. Visitation will continue on Thursday morning at the Church, beginning at 9:30 until the time of mass.

William E. Rooney was born on September 7, 1932 in Padua, the son of Walter and Laura (Ahles) Rooney. William was united in marriage to Rose Hallermann at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. They made their home in Brooten where he worked at the grocery store and as a rural mail carrier They moved to rural Paynesville after his retirement.

Willie was a member of the Church of Our Lady in Manannah and former member of St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten,

He is survived by his wife, Rose of Paynesville; children Diane Rinkert of Winterset, IA, Karen (Bryon) DeJong of Baxter, IA, Donald Rooney of Brooten, Mark (Jennifer) Rooney of Spicer, Paul (Christina) Rooney of Belgrade, Allen Rooney of Brooten and Mary (Daniel) Thonvold of Sunburg; 18 grandchildren; siblings, Jeanette (Walter) Schwindel of Richmond, Kenneth (Dorine) Rooney of Waite Park, Alice (Richard) Peters of Sauk Centre, Melvin Rooney of Brooten, Audrey (Robert) French of Brooten, and Clarence (Betty) Rooney of Brooten.
