Aelred "Al" Francis Ahles U.S. Veteran Aelred "Al" Francis Ahles, age 84, Brownsburg, IN passed away Dec. 1, 2014. He was born Sept. 17, 1930 to the late John F. and Mary Rooney Ahles in St. Cloud, MN. He graduated from Cathedral High School, St. Cloud, MN in 1948. He attended St. John's University in Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1959 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic University, Troy, NY, in 1963 with a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He worked for United Aircraft in Hartford, CT, Combustion Engineering, Windsor Locks, CT, and retired from Allison Gas Turbines. He was active as a Boy Scout leader and was Club Master for Pack 396 for many years. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Brownsburg Lion's Club and the Brownsburg American Legion. His hobbies were woodworking, genealogy, card playing and camping. He is survived by his wife, Mary of 58 years; four sons, John (Lynn), Steven (Mari), David (Kathi), and Peter Ahles; 8 grandchildren, Ashley, Miles, Nicole, Amelia, Makena, Ellie, Bryce and Brenton Ahles; sisters, Celestine (George) Pappenfus, Yvonne Gapinski; and brothers, Timothy (Joyce) Ahles, Roland (Julie) Ahles. He was preceded in death by his sister Marcella Ahles. Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am on Mon. Dec. 8 in Calvary United Methodist Church, 575 West Northfield Dr., Brownsburg, IN with funeral services there at 11 am. Burial will be in West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. Donations can be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association. |
