Mary Ellen Nelson
Mary Ellen Nelson, 72, of S. Arlington Avenue, died, Tuesday March 29, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born June 22, 1932 to William and Mary (Raden) Rooney in Duluth, Minn. Mary Ellen graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950. She married Leonard Nelson on June 30, 1951 in Duluth, where they have been lifelong residents. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the St. Joseph's Plus 55 Club. Her parents precede her in death. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Leonard; her daughters, Lynn LaPlante of Duluth; Susan (Lynn) Crane of Duluth; Laurie (Gene) Whitbeck of Mound, Minn.; her sons, Stephen (Joan Bren) Nelson of Bloomington, Minn.; Richard (Brenda) Nelson of Duluth; her sisters, Kathleen Dinkel of Duluth and Mary Ann (Bill) Engel of Duluth; her grandchildren, Andrea and Renae LaPlante; Kirstin and Bryan Whitbeck; her great grandchildren, Maria and Zachary. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospice and I.C.U. Units for there comforting care. VISITATION:5p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. Wake Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duluth Heights, with a visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
