Kathleen "Kay" Walz, age 81 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Sunday, November 8, 2009 surrounded by her family at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 11 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Julius Beckermann, OSB and Rev. Sylvester Kleinschmidt will concelebrate with interment following in St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery in Padua. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday followed by Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Kay Rooney was born March 8, 1928 in Raymond Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Francis and Josephine (Jasken) Rooney. On August 11, 1947 she married Virgil Walz at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Padua. The couple began farming in North Fork Township, Stearns County in 1950 and they were members of the St. Anthony of Padua Parish, where she was active in Christian Mothers and taught catechism. She retired in 1985 and moved to Sauk Centre in 1990. She managed the BBE Foodshelf in Brooten and also was a driver for Stearns County Social Services for many years. Since August she had resided at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Kay was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, playing Upwords, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Roger Walz of Brooten, Cheryl (Ron) Wagner of Hutchinson, Marilyn Edman of New London, Gail (Scott Kramer) Eibensteiner of Melrose, Barb (Dennis) Gregory of Richmond, Virginia "Ginny" (Marvin) Borgerding of Brooten, Mark (Tammy) Walz of Sauk Centre, Michille (Leon VanderEsch) Braegelmann of Cold Spring and Alan (Milissa) Walz of Holdingford; 35 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Joan Domke of St. Paul, Fran (George) Zilliox, Gerald (Georgia) Rooney, all of Belgrade, Norene Miller of St. Cloud, Phil (Jeannie) Rooney of Burnsville, Sharon (David) Beseke of Brooten, David (Karen) Rooney of Woodbury, Dan (Jude) Rooney of Prescott, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil Walz on May 1, 1988; daughter, Arlene Walz on October 28, 2004; sister, Pat Kelley; brothers, Richard Rooney and infant John. Serving as casket bearers will be Craig Walz, Erica Van Beck, Anthony Wagner, Shawn Edman, Nick Eibensteiner, Brent Gregory, Adam Borgerding, and Mike Walz. Cross bearer will be Kimberly Eibensteiner and scripture bearer will be Stephanie Kalass. Honorary bearers will be Henry and Marion Evens, Dave and Clara Rooney, Phyllis Streff, Doris Arens, Joan Peters, Alice Peters, Darlene Marthaler, Margaret Breitbach, Alice Kollman, Lorraine Kollman, Claudette Jennissen, Margaret Meyer, Margaret Klassen, and Adeline Middendorf. |
