Ambrose attended St John's University and worked briefly in Minneapolis before returning to the family farm his father had homesteaded in 1875, where he spent the rest of his life. He died in St Michael's hospital, in Sauk Centre. He had been a victim of iron diabetes for 10 years and underwent surgery in1966 in Minneapolis and in 1970 in St Cloud.

ROONEY, AMBROSE M.

Ambrose M. Rooney, 73, a lifetime resident of Padua, died Sunday, June 20, 1975, at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre. He had been a victim of iron diabetes for 10 years and underwent surgery in 1966 in Minneapolis and in 1970 in St. Cloud.

He was born May 4, 1902, the son of Padua pioneers Michael and Margaret Rooney. He was the third or four children, the others being Francis, Mary (Majerus) and Helen (Felling). He attended St. John's University and worked briefly in Minneapolis before returning to the family farm his father had homesteaded in 1875, where he spent the rest of his life.

A requiem High Mass was celebrated Wednesday, June 25, by Rev. Vincent Fettgather at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Padua. A special offertory song was sung by relatives of the deceased and verses from the Book of Wisdom and the Book of Psalms were read from the family Bible by two nephews. His sister, Helen Felling, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph Rooney, carried the offertory gifts. His nephews were pallbearers and his great-nephews, Mass servers.

Honorary pallbearers included Joe Arens, Jerome Ebensteiner, James Kenna, Howard Rooney, Norbert Schwieters and George Wieners.

Present at the funeral were his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Felling of Woodacre, Calif., his sister-in-law, Josephine Rooney, and their children. They included Kathleen Walz, Richard Rooney and Sharon Ostendorf of Brooten; James Felling, Bernard Felling and John Charles Felling of Detroit, Mich.; Joan Domke or St. Paul; Patricia Kelly of Richfield; Frances Fauskee of Minneapolis; Gerald Rooney of Belgrade; Noreen Miller of Brooklyn Center; David Rooney of Rochester; Daniel Rooney of Hastings; Michael Felling or Owatonna, Mary Margaret Bommarito of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; Daniel Felling of Flint, Mich.; Geraldine Walsh of Lagunitas, Calif.; and Gerald Felling of Mt. Clemens, Mich.

PADUA - Ambrose M. Rooney, 73, died June 22 at St. Michael's Hospital, Sauk Centre. He was born May 4, 1902, to the late Michael and Margaret Rooney and farmed all his life in the area.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edward (Helen) Felling, Wood Acres, Calif.

Mr. Rooney was preceded in death by a brother, Francis, and a sister, Mary Majerus.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Vincent Fettgether will officiate.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Schad-Corrigan Funeral Home, Sauk Centre. St. Anthony's parish will say the rosary at the funeral home at 9 tonight.

Ambrose Michael Rooney was born May 4, 1902, the son of Michael and Margaret (Murphy) Rooney. He was the third child of four children. Ambrose attended St. John's University and worked briefly in Minneapolis before returning to the family farm, due to the death of his father. He spent the rest of his life farming and raising sheep. Ambrose never married. He is remembered for always having a pipe in his mouth, and would give the children little empty matchboxes to hold their treasures.

Ambrose had been a victim of iron diabetes for ten years before his death on June 22, 1975. Rev Vincent Fettgether officiated at the funeral Mass held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Padua. Ambrose's parents, brother Francis and sister Mary Majerus, brother-in-law Edwin Felling, and many other relatives are buried in Padua.
