James Chester Mitchell, age 85, of Northfield, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at the Minneapolis Veteran's Home. Jim was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Minneapolis, to James and Isabelle (O'Grady) Mitchell. In November 1945, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines, receiving an honorable discharge in January 1947. Jim married Ella Juaire on June 3, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. He drove truck and worked for MDOT and was a member of the Church of St. Dominic and the Northfield VFW. Jim is survived by his wife, Ella; seven children, Jim of Ohio, David of Burnsville, Mary Collins of Castle Rock, Connie Staley of Veseli, John of Northfield, Mike of New Prague, and Randy of Northfield; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, John of Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at the Minneapolis Veteran's Home, 5101 Minnehaha Ave. S. Interment with military honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
