Peter Tintes, 68, Belgrade

Peter Edward Tintes, 68, of Belgrade, died Friday, July 2, 2004, following an automobile accident.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Burial was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Eden Valley.
Peter was born on Feb. 29, 1936, in Forest Prairie Township, Meeker County, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Edna (Martin) Tintes. He was ra ised in the Eden Valley area where he graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1954.
He entered Nazareth Hall in St. Paul to begin his study for the priesthood. From there he went to St. Paul Seminary and was ordained on Feb. 2, 1963. He served parishes in Bird Island, Willmar and Raymond. While he was at Raymond, he was instrumental in developing an interdenominational religion in Life Center at Ridgewater College. He began teaching college courses in 1968, which the accompanying degrees taught, philosophy, sociology and psychology. He received his master's degree from Loyola University in 1973. The last part of his career he spent directing the programs training Chemical Dependency Counselors. He retired from teaching in 1997.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Grabber on April 11, 1988, on their farm near Belgrade. Together, they lived on their farm where Pete practiced organic farming.
Pete was an avid reader and worked with genealogy and the Kandiyohi County Historical Society. He was the precinct chair of the DFL.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Grabber-Tintes; sisters, Katherine (Jack) Rhuland of Eden Valley and Peggy ( Jim) Beauchaine of Wayzata; a brother, David Tintes of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas, and sisters, Lois Thielen and Laura Kalkbrenner.

Lyle Martin: "Peter Edward Tintes attended minor seminary at Nazareth Hall and then St. Paul Seminary and was ordained in the St. Peter's Church by Bishop Schladweiller of the New Ulm Diocese on February 2, 1963. Father Peter was the assistant pastor at Bird Island and at St. Mary's in Willmar for four years and in 1967 he was assigned to the Sacred Heart Parish in Raymond where he remained until 1978. During those years at Raymond he worked for and with the campus ministry at the college in Willmar. He was subsequently stationed in Willmar and was campus minister at Willmar Junior College and Willmar Area Vo-Tech Institute"
