Birth: Jul. 27, 1930 Robert S. Egan, 75, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Reverend Allan Reicks celebrating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Robert was born July 27, 1930, in St. Paul, Minn., to Cleve and Margaret (Sullivan) Egan. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from Patrick Henry High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1950, where he served until his honorable discharge in January 1954. He returned to Minnesota, where he attended the University of Minnesota and worked at JCPenney's, downtown Minneapolis. He was employed with Patterson Dental Company from 1954 to 1970. He then joined Prodenco and served in sales and as vice president until his retirement in July 1992. On Oct. 21, 1961, he married Mary Macek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson, Minn. He was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was an active member of the American Hemerocallis (day lily) Society and enjoyed outdoor activities. He was active in gardening and the Trinity Heights Queen of Peace, where he served on the board of directors. Survivors include his wife Mary; six children and spouses, Cathy Egan-Graves and Bill Graves of Sioux City, Beth and Tim Neilson of West Des Moines, Karen and Tom Stephany of Clear Lake, Iowa, Mike Egan of Sioux City, Barb Hutchinson of Sioux City, and Teresa Egan of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Egan of Baraboo, Wis.; sisters-in-law and husbands, Gloria Egan of Minnesota, Dorothy and Bob Svoboda of Jackson, Minn., Nancy and Don Baker of Charleroi, Pa., and Sue Macek and Rich Gonsioroski of Minneapolis; a brother-in-law, Michael Macek of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas Egan. Memorials may be made to Trinity Heights Queen of Peace or to Pope Paul VI Institute, 6901 Mercy Road, Omaha, NE. 68106-2621.
