John C. Rooney John C. Rooney, a retired Bangor farmer who has lived in Glenwood for the past four years, passed away on Saturday, April 5th. He had been ill only for a short time. John Charles Rooney was born on January 28, 1875 at Prescott, Wisconsin and was past 76 at the time of his death. His parents were James and Annie Rooney. At the age of ten, he came with his parents to Stearns county, settling at Padua, in Raymond township. There he grew to manhood and attended the St. Cloud Teachers College. He also taught school for several years. On September 2, 1900 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schaefer. She preceded him to the grave six years ago. After his marriage, they moved to Bangor township, where he continued to farm until he retired. He was living with his son Delbert in 1940 in Glenwood, a year before his death. Funeral services were held at ten o'clock on Monday from the Brooten Catholic Church with Reverend Smith officiating. The pallbearers were: Steve Mitchell, Jack Casey, John Majerus, Henry Glieden, Wm. Egan and Joe Egan. He is survived by the following children: Delbert of Glenwood, Lester of Minneapolis, Sergeant Harold Rooney of Macon, Georgia, Mrs. Raymond Gulck of Milbank, S. D., Mrs. Jack Bisek of Brainerd, Mrs. Z. Dworsky of Minneapolis and Mrs. Ed. Ryan of St. Paul. A son, Cyril and a daughter, Marvel, are deceased. Surviving him are the following brothers and sisters: George of Padua, James of Brooten, Joe of International Falls, Mrs. Martha Young of Brooten, and Mrs. Glen Taylor of Belgrade. One sister, Sister Eusebia, is deceased. Mr. Rooney was a man of fine character and a man who unassumingly and cheerfully went about his duties in life. He served sixteen years as town clerk and held various positions of trust. Taken from the Pope County Tribune of April 10, 1941. Baptismal sponsors: William J and Catherine Martin. |
